Frequently Asked Questions

Is it Safe?

Here at Skydive Long Island in Calverton, we hold safety as our #1 priority. Over the past 24 years in business, we have held and maintained an excellent safety record. All of our instructors are fully certified under the United States Parachute Association and have thousands of jumps a piece. While we make skydiving as safe as it possibly can be, please keep in mind that you are jumping out of a plane over 2 ½ miles above the earth. However, it is statistically proven that the most dangerous part of the skydive is the drive home.

Will I be able to breathe?

Yes. Upon exit of the aircraft you will be able to breathe normally.

What do I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing according to the weather; dress appropriately. While athletic type clothing is recommended, jeans or loose fitting attire will be fine. Also bring Sneakers- please refrain from wearing boots or shoes with hooks, flip flops, or footwear not suitable for outdoor activities.

How long do I need to plan on being there?

Please plan on spending half of your day at the airport. While the entire process usually only takes 1-2 hours, delays are possible. Please plan your time accordingly. If arriving after Noon on the weekends, plan on being at the DZ until sunset.

What time should I arrive?

On the day of your scheduled jump, please plan on arriving at your scheduled class time. Be advised, this is the time you scheduled for and is not your actual jump time. You will fill out a short legal waiver and watch a training video prior to meeting with your instructor. After the brief training session, we will schedule your group on the next available flight.

How high do you jump from?

Here at Skydive Long Island we offer the highest jumps on Long Island, from 13,500ft (a little over 2 ½ miles high)!!!

Can I jump with my friends?

Yes! Here at Skydive Long Island in CALVERTON we take up to 8 tandem students up in the plane at once. We will always try to keep groups together.

What planes do you use?

Here at Skydive Long Island in CALVERTON, we have two FULL-Time TURBINE aircraft, a 19 passenger Cessna Grand Caravan and a 14 passenger King Air.

Where will I land?

You will land on our 2,900 acre airport, in our grass landing area which is only about 50 yards away from the spectator area.

What is the view like?

You will be jumping over Eastern Long Island and will be able to see the entire island, the Atlantic Ocean, LI Sound, the beautiful twin forks, the famous Hamptons and even NYC on clear days, as well as all the way up to Connecticut, and down the Jersey shoreline.

What if I wear glasses?

That’s okay. We will supply you with special goggles that fit right over your glasses.

Should I eat before my jump?

Yes. It’s always best to have food in your stomach. Skydiving produces adrenaline so please make sure to eat before your skydive to avoid an upset tummy.

What if I am prone to motion sickness?

You may take a Dramamine or other motion sickness pill prior to jumping.

How hard is the landing?

We use the most up to date Ram-Air canopies which are designed for soft landings. You and your instructor will land either standing up or by sliding in of which your instructor will take most of the force if any.

Can we split a video?

Unfortunately not. When you exit the aircraft there is about a 5 second delay between each person for safe separation between jumpers. It is physically impossible for the videographers to get more than one person on the same free-fall video; however they will be able to take group pictures on the ground, in the plane and possibly during the landings.

Are Gift Certificates Refundable?

Gift certificates are good for one year from date of purchase and are non-refundable, however they are transferable.

What if I decide I don’t want to jump?

If you decide you do not want to jump prior to getting on the plane, we will happily offer a full refund less the deposit for your slot. However once you are on the aircraft no refunds will be given. If you decide you do not wish to exit the aircraft, you and your instructor can ride the plane down.

What if it rains?

We suggest that tandem students call ahead to see if there are any weather complications, prior to heading out to the drop-zone. If the day of your scheduled skydive happens to be a wash-out, we will simply reschedule you for another day. No charges will apply. All AFP students or anyone taking the AFP Ground School should arrive on schedule regardless of the weather.

Can I bring my dog to the airport?

While we love pets too, we kindly ask that you leave them at home on the day of your jump.
