Calverton Enterprise Airpark
In 1986, Ray Maynard founded Skydive Long Island and operated out of a very small airstrip in East Moriches for many years. He always hoped to find a better and safer place to locate his business. In Calverton, was an untouchable airfield. A government property, no trespassing under penalty of death. The airport was closed and it was hard to believe that skydivers would ever be allowed on these hallowed grounds. But then when we least expected it, Ray's dream came true! On September 20th, 2000, we received approval to move in! The uncut grass, the herds of deer, the huge runways were now ours.
Skydive Long Island is located in CALVERTON, NY and owns a 23,000 sf hangar on 16.3 acres of land. Once home to Grumman, builders of the F-14 and Lunar Modules, it is now home to skydivers. The airport is HUGE (about 2,900 acres to be exact) and has the largest landing area in the US! We use a 10,000-foot-long runway, and have a 5-acre landing area along the taxiway!
