
Raymond F. Maynard made his first Jump on the same day Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon—July 20,1969.
During his 40+ years of Skydiving Ray has been on the United States National Parachute Team five times, jumping as the Team leader in 1993. He’s a member of 1983 World Cup Championship Skydive Team. After winning the Silver Medal in the 2001 U.S. Nationals, Ray retired from competition.
Ray holds a United States Parachute Association Tandem Instructor rating-he is the safety and training advisor for the drop zone, FAA Senior rigger, Commercial Pilot with more than 2300 hours. Ray has logged more than 3,500 jumps to date. Hundreds of these are demonstration jumps across the country, including the Michigan International Speedway. Many of his local demos were for raising money for many charitable events. Ray donated his complete set of gear used in the 1999 World Championships to the Cradle of Aviation (located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. in Garden City, NY) which now is a manikin of Ray displayed in the atrium of the museum.
Ray established Skydive Long Island in 1986 and the business is still going strong. In 2007 Ray was selected as Business person of the year by The News Review. Ray has been a life long resident of Long Island and now resides in the Hamptons.
