Closest Skydiving to NYC

Published: August 5, 2019

People on the fence about skydiving have a million excuses - it's too far, too expensive, too dangerous. At Skydive Long Island we've heard them all and frequently address several, but today's lesson is that we aren't far at all.

If you thought that skydiving in New Jersey was your most convenient bet, we have some news: it ain't.

In fact, we're the closest skydiving dropzone to the city. And our views are second to none in the area - Long Island Sound, the twin forks, Westhampton Beach, the Atlantic Ocean, Smith Point County Park, and the Fire Island National Seashore. On clear days, you can even see all the way to Montauk and New York City.

Instead of fighting traffic and doling out tolls, pack your beach bag and head to Long Island for the weekend. Just 50 miles from the city, out here you have countless options for awesome entertainment and family friendly activities, amazing food and great hotels ... and, of course, stellar skydiving.

Here's how we suggest you get to us -

LIRR

Easy and affordable, the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) offers frequent service from Penn Station in Manhattan (34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues) to the Mastic Shirley train station on Long Island, not far from the Skydive Long Island.

The train from the city is just over two hours and an Uber from Mastic Shirley to the Brookhaven-Calabro Airport is about 6 minutes.

SUBWAY

Head to Queens.

If a pal's picking you up, consider getting off at the Jamaica Center - Parsons/Archer Station. From Penn Station, it takes only 30 minutes to get to Jamaica Center and the car ride will take right around an hour.

If you want to get a bit closer to the dropzone before reverting to four wheels, think about getting off at the Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Station and then hop on the LIRR at the Jamaica station and get off at Mastic Shirley.

CAR

Driving from the city might be least appealing, but if you're heading our way outside of rush hour you could get to us in two hours (or less, if you're lucky).

Sunrise Highway, the Long Island Expressway and William Floyd Parkway all lead to Skydive Long Island.

And we've got plenty of free parking when you get here.

Whether you plan to spend the day with us or the weekend, we're ready to make your skydiving dream a reality. If you have questions, reach out! We're just a hop, skip and crazy-awesome jump away.
