One of the negative byproducts of living through a global pandemic is not having much to look forward to. In stressful times, our burdens can be eased knowing that a great vacation is just around the corner. The pandemic has muted all of that and it has left many of us searching for something to fill the void created by the numb repetition of quarantining, Zoom calls, elbow bumps, and facemasks. We could all do with a Caribbean vacation to make us feel alive once again, but it's unlikely to happen anytime soon. Perhaps you should consider skydiving.
Skydiving is more than a superficial adventure. The benefits of a skydive are far-reaching on a deeper, more soulful level. Because Hollywood has showcased skydiving exclusively as an adrenaline experience, the benefits of skydiving are often overlooked. In times like these, a skydive serves as a release and an opportunity to gain perspective.
The Benefits of Skydiving - FREEDOM
It's hard to express it better than Tati (above), but what she is expressing is something we see all of the time - people moved by this experience. Skydiving is transcendental for many people because it offers a level of peace seldom felt in these tumultuous times. This seems counterintuitive being that skydiving puts people out of their comfort zones to such an extreme degree, but there is peace amongst the perceived chaos. What makes skydiving so extraordinary is that it centers your mind to the present. The subconscious burdens that tie us down in nearly everything we do in life are suddenly absent. Regrets from the past and worries about the future dissolve and you are left consuming / living / experiencing every moment in real-time without any distraction - and.that.feels.amazing. Though we sell skydiving, this sentiment is not superfluous. This is the real deal and it must be experienced to be understood.
The Benefits of Skydiving: HAPPINESS
Another unexpected benefit of skydiving is the joy felt following a jump. The experience of free fall creates a cocktail of happy chemicals on the brain that's usually forced by prescription drugs that can become addictive because of how they make us feel. You could say skydiving is a natural prescription for happiness because of the presence of adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine. While Antuan (below) isn't typical of everyone's response, the reaction of deep happiness is present with nearly every guest we've hosted since we opened our doors 20 years ago. Those who don't enjoy the experience are few and far between.
The Benefits of Skydiving: EMPOWERMENT
One of the best aspects of skydiving is the realization that we are capable of doing more and bigger things with our lives. Skydiving serves as a wake-up call that forces us to ask some big questions starting with: Am I challenging myself enough? Can I be living a better life than I'm living?
That question is a big one because most of us do settle into a state of comfort that in itself can be dangerous. Few have expressed the magnificence of skydiving better than Will Smith as he talks about the benefit of conquering one's fear:
Take The First Step
While we wait for the mass distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, it's likely that the world will need to wait until the third quarter of 2021 to resume traveling again. Despite that, it doesn't mean we can't begin living our best lives. If you're wanting to look forward to something again, skydiving may be what you need to awaken your soul from the quarantine rut. At Skydive Long Island we are serious about our COVID-19 protocols to help our guests and staff feel secure. If you think skydiving will serve as the personal challenge you've been looking for then your first step will be to make a tandem skydive.
Skydive Long Island will reopen in the spring of 2021 and we look forward to hosting guests ready to spread their wings and fly!
