Skydiving is unique. Even compared to other extreme activities, there is something singularly epic about freefall that makes it something everyone should do once at the very least. Tandem skydiving is set up to give brand new students access to skydiving in the most efficient manner possible - giving you just the training you need and a qualified professional to jump with who handles the procedures. This means that you can be confident in what you are about to achieve, while also doing so in the best way to allow you to soak up everything that makes skydiving perhaps the most exciting activity of all.
Set Yourself Up Properly
Many people think that jumping out of an airplane is going to involve the same kind of stomach-troubling sensations as fairground rides or other extreme activities. You don't need to worry about this, as skydiving from an aircraft feels graceful and natural. When you exit through the door of the plane, your momentum from forward flight transitions smoothly into freefall. There is no big drop and your stomach doesn't get 'left behind' - so you can (and should) eat and drink properly before you head to the dropzone on the day of your jump. Skydiving involves some activity, so the best way to get the absolute most from your aerial experience is to fortify yourself with nutrition and calories.
Come Prepared
There are a few things you need to remember to bring with you when you come to the dropzone. You need a valid, government-issued picture ID to cover the paperwork formalities required by the United States Parachute Association (USPA) - the non-profit organization that regulates how we go about skydiving. Also, you must wear both sensible clothing and closed-toe shoes with laces, as skydiving is a sport in which you are participating even from jump number one. We will give you a jumpsuit to wear over your clothes if it is chilly, but wear loose layers that cover your arms and legs, and stay away from garments with flaps or dangly details.
Relax
If you have never skydived before, the prospect of leaping out of a flying machine wearing a backpack made of fabric and string can be scary, but you need not be anxious about it. Every part of the tandem skydiving process is carefully controlled and professionally considered - and we have been doing it now for decades. Skydiving equipment is very good at doing its job, built using very strong materials and flown by highly experienced instructors whose goal it is to make your tandem skydiving experience the absolute best it can be.
Get It All On Video
You only do your first skydive once, and the first one is the best. The whole process - gearing up, riding up in the plane, the jump itself, and the canopy ride back to the landing area - bombards your senses. You will never ever forget what it feels like to jump through the door into the total freedom of the sky, but what better way to savor the details again and again than by recording everything? You cannot take your own camera, but our team is fully equipped to offer you the best possible media package of the full experience so you can share it afterwards and relive it whenever you wish.
Here at Skydive Long Island we specialize in introducing new people to freefall via tandem skydiving. We do what we do because we want as many new people as possible to know how amazing our sport is, and we always offer our absolute best to be certain your skydiving experience is something you will treasure forever.
