General Questions
- Can I breathe in free fall?
Yes - however the excitement may leave you breathless!
- Can people come watch me jump?
As far as we're concerned, you can bring as many people as you'd like to watch/support you. In fact, we encourage it!!! Bring everybody you know to watch and by the time you've landed, half of them will want to jump too!! The only rule is no pets please.
- How far are you from New York?
Brookhaven Airport is located about 65 miles and about 75 minutes from lower Manhattan according to Google Maps. Please expect traffic and plan to arrive early for your appointment.
- What does skydiving feel like?
It is not like a roller coaster. You actually feel like you're flying like a super hero. It is not easy to describe the unique sensations you will experience, but we promise it will be exhilarating. Skydiving is likely to be more exciting than anything else you've ever experienced.
- What if I’m afraid of heights?
You will not really notice - because you are thousands of feet in the air, you will not likely feel your fear of heights. Some of our instructors have a hard time climbing a ladder but have thousands of skydives!

- What is the relationship between Skydive Long Island and Long Island Skydiving Center?
Skydive Long Island (SLI) has a long history of skydiving operations on Long Island. While Skydive Long Island and Long Island Skydiving Center (LISC) are two separate companies, both share the same ownership. At this time, SLI acts as a business marketing the Tandem jumps offered by LISC. In order to streamline operations and offer the best customer service, students who book through SLI will be transferred to and will make their skydive with LISC.
Tandem Skydiving Questions
- Can I bring my own camera on the plane and in freefall?
With safety as our primary concern, the answer to this question has to be no. We must ensure that nothing falls to the ground, but we must also ensure that you are paying attention to the instructions that you are given for a safe skydive. In addition to this, the United States Parachute Association (USPA) and United Parachute Technologies (UPT) both recommend hundreds of skydives before use of a camera.
- Can I consume alcohol before my skydive?
The consumption of alcohol prior to skydiving activities is strictly prohibited.
- Can I wear my own GoPro or camera during the skydive?
The United States Parachute Association (USPA) mandates that all skydivers must have a minimum of 200 jumps prior to taking a camera into freefall. No outside cameras are permitted on your skydive due to safety reasons. There are no exceptions.
- How long will the experience take?
Because there are a lot of factors that go into preparing you for your skydive, be ready to spend a few hours with us. And the more people in your group, the more time it will take to get everyone up in the sky.
Additionally, there's always a possibility of adverse weather, which is out of our control. We do our best to get all students up as soon weather conditions are optimal.
- Is it okay to make a skydive wearing my glasses?
Yes! We provide skydiving goggles for your experience. If you wear eyeglasses, we offer a larger model that can fit overtop of your glasses. Regular goggles are worn if you wear contact lenses.
- Is it possible to jump through clouds?
No.. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) governs the laws of the sky. The pilot needs to be a certain distance from the clouds when flying and we need to be able to see where we are over the ground. We also need to be able to see if there are any other airplanes in the air around or below us.
Since safety is our first priority, we only jump if we feel we can do it safely!
- What clothes should I wear to make my skydive?
Skydiving is an athletic activity so please wear clothing that does not limit your range of motion. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for the temperature outside and clothing you don't mind getting a little dirty. Athletic shoes with laces so you can tighten them up are ideal. No heels or hiking type boots with hooks are allowed.
- What if I need to reschedule?
If for any reason you need to reschedule, no problem! Call or email us 48 hours prior to your appointment and we will move your deposit to another day and time. Deposits and pre-payments are non-refundable, but if you decide not to jump, call or email and we will transfer your deposit or pre-payment to another person. You may also use this deposit for other products we offer like clothing or goggles.
- What if the weather is bad?
If the weather isn't ideal, we will reschedule your reservation. Please understand that while we pay the weather bill monthly, the level of service we receive is worse than from most cell phone companies.
- Do Gift Certificates & Reservations Expire?
-
Yes, both gift certificates and reservations are subject to a one year expiration date.
Gift certificates must be redeemed within one year of the purchase date. Reservations must be completed within one year of the original purchase date. If you've made a reservation and need to reschedule it, you must reschedule within one year of the original purchase date. Please note that all rescheduling changes must be made at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled reservation. Otherwise, a $50 change fee per person will be applied. This policy is subject to change without notification
Requirements
- Is there a weight limit?
Our weight limit is 225 pounds for height to weight proportional people. Please call before making a reservation for people above 200 pounds and remember that your safety is our top priority. We will do everything we safely can to get you in the air. There is an additional fee for customers over 200 pounds. Please call to inquire.
- Is there an age limit?
You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid government issued ID. There is no upper age limit - if skydiving is still on your bucket list, we can help you check it off!
- Will I be required to sign a release and waiver of liability?
Absolutely. Skydiving is an ultra hazardous extreme sport that may result in death or serve bodily injury. The skydiving industry would not exist if waivers of legal liability and assumption of risk agreements were not required.
