What to Eat Before Skydiving

If your first jump is coming up and you're making plans for that day and wondering how to prepare yourself, you've come to the right place! When preparing for a skydive, it is important to make sure that your body is ready for the experience and like with any other sport, it's important to eat and fuel your body.

Don't Come Hungry!

Contrary to what the butterflies in your stomach might be telling you during the hours leading up to your jump, it is essential to eat! You need that sugar and those calories to power you up for the adventure of a lifetime. Not eating can actually make you more nauseous than if you eat a filling meal, that being said, don't stuff yourself like it's Thanksgiving!

The best option to make sure that you're energized and ready to go, but not overfilled? Eat a normal, nutritious meal!

So you can eat, but what should you eat? Go for something that your stomach is used to and that you know doesn't give you any sort of negative reaction. Like our normal focus should be, your goal with what you eat should be to fuel you for the upcoming adventure!

What to Eat Before Skydiving

If it's the morning, a bowl of oatmeal is a great, nutritious way to get in calories that will keep you going for a long time! At lunchtime, go for a sandwich with lots of protein that will keep you ready and alert during your jump.

If you're too nervous to have a whole meal, go for a high calorie smoothie! Just be sure to fuel yourself up for your adventure!

What You Shouldn't Eat Before a Skydive

Don't overstuff yourself! You want to eat and be full, but eating too much can lead to feeling lethargic. Plus, the shaking and rattling that happens during freefall could very well upset your stomach and lead to it letting go of the large meal you had.

Like we said, eat something normal for you, although, if that's a big platter of clams casino, you might want to switch it up. Too much greasy food can make your stomach roll even more during your freefall, which isn't what you want to be focused on during your skydive!

Do not drink any alcoholic beverages before your jump. Any reputable dropzone will turn you away if they suspect that you have been drinking. We are no exception. Alcohol doesn't make the skydive experience more fun, it makes it the worst the experience can be - because you won't be jumping.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Drink LOTS of water! It's one of the most important things you'll do for yourself before taking the jump. The symptoms of dehydration can be debilitating when you're having a normal day. When you're skydiving, the higher altitude exacerbates the problem even more! Plus, when you're excited about taking your jump, it's easy to miss the initial signs of dehydration. So keep on sippin' that water and keep yourself hydrated!

Make sure that you prepare not only physically, but also mentally for your first dive. Taking care of yourself in all aspects will make the dive the best experience it possibly can be!

It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to jump again. My instructor was great, experienced, and made me feel at ease. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
